CINCINNATI – May 17, 2010 – Last week’s National Fraud Issues Conference, hosted in Chicago by the Mortgage Bankers Association, drew more attendees than last year’s event, which some saw as a sign that the industry was well into its recovery. Attendance was not up to the level that MBA saw prior to the downturn. Many executives that might have registered and could have benefited from the material presented at the show were not in attendance. eLynx, a portfolio company of American Capital (NASDAQ: ACAS), sent a number of executives to the conference and has made commentary available on its website from Andy Crisenbery, Vice President of Professional Services.
“Everyone was talking about forming more of a community to address the problem,” Crisenbery said. “With the prevalence of borrowers going online and lenders losing that face-to-face interaction, it’s much more difficult to address specific cases of fraud.”
Crisenbery said that lenders did not seem to approach the idea of sharing data to combat fraud with as much trepidation as they have in the past. Sharing data, lessons and approaches were themes at this year’s event.
